Mayor Message - March 2021

Council

Greetings from Town Hall,

February 2021 Winter Storm

Our state was hit by a devastating winter storm that took lives and left millions without power and water. All 254 counties were impacted by the deep freeze. By all accounts, the state’s power grid was in crisis and minutes from completely shutting down.

Our state legislature has begun committee hearings to investigate what happened and why. The legislature and industry must come up with solutions and implement improvements, so our state’s power grid is never threatened again.

It is heartbreaking to know many residents’ homes were flooded when frozen water pipes burst. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time.

We thank Double Oak’s fire and police departments who assisted residents during the crisis. The Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department helped turn off the water to many homes. The Double Oak Police Department checked on many of our senior residents and assisted motorists.

Town Hall administration ensured communications were sent out to keep our residents informed.

Councilmembers fully supported actions that assisted our residents.

The town was in frequent contact with our state legislative delegation, Denton County officials, our utility providers, and other organizations.

The town will continue to act and help our residents recover from this winter storm event.

Double Oak is known as the town of volunteers. Thank you to everyone who checked on and helped your neighbors.

May 1, 2021 General Election

Double Oak voters will go to the polls this year to elect a mayor and two town council members.

Von Beougher is unopposed for the mayor seat.

Three candidates have filed for the two council seats up for election. The candidates, in ballot order, are Patrick Johnson, Scott Whisenhunt and Casey Parsons. The two receiving the most votes will be elected.

The town is trying to schedule a candidate forum before early voting starts and plans to record the candidate forum and put it online so all residents may view it. Good luck to the candidates.

Annual Audit Report

The town received another outstanding annual audit report for fiscal year 2019-2020. Every penny is accounted for. The town is in great financial shape. The most recent years annual audit reports are posted on the town website.

Waketon Road Improvement Project
