Open Town Council Seat to Be Filled at The June 5th Town Council Meeting

The new Town Council will fill the vacant town council seat at the June 5th council meeting. Nominations were due to the town hall by noon last Friday. There were two forms sent to the town. We look forward to the nominations and vote during the meeting and welcome our newest Council member, whomever that may be.

Message from the Town Council

Welcome to Summer! Please remember to drive safely through town while the kids are out of school. Remember to enjoy summer with a visit to the Farmer’s market stand on Saturdays and to visit our local businesses.

Memorial Day Flag Display in the J. B. Wright Park – Thank You, Ashley, and Team

Ashley Hart and her volunteers again this year exceeded expectations with the setup of the Memorial Day Flag Display in the J. B. Wright Park adjacent to the town hall. The town appreciates what Ashley does each year, and if you have not had the chance to see the display, I encourage you to do so next year. Thank you, Ashley and Team!

Update:  Traffic Changes from CoServ (Utility Pole & Electrical Line Replacement)

Originally (POSTED ON: APRIL 20, 2023 – 4:01 PM) – See the Link below for original details.

The town continues to monitor the CoServ pole and line replacement. As noted in the link below, there will be days when traffic will be diverted in one direction or down to one lane at times. The town realizes this is an inconvenience, especially as they catch up on work on the weekends. Please be patient; the project will end in the coming weeks. Our public works will be in contact with CoServ and provide any essential updates as needed.

Contact Double Oak public works director Randall Anglin with concerns or questions.

Double Oak Mill and Overlay Project to Begin Mid to Late June

Last week, the preconstruction meeting occurred at Town Hall with Halff and Peach Tree Construction. The meeting went well; the contractor wants to start work in mid-June.

For the first two streets, they will do the complete mill and then base repair. Mill should take one day, and base repair 1-2 days, followed immediately by the overlay. Once overlay has started on the first two streets; they will move with the mill to the final two streets to begin the same process. We will see where they are the week before the 4th Holiday to see where they may need to stop and resume after the Holiday.

The streets in no particular order for Mill and Overlay will be Park Lane, Timber View, Meadow Knoll, and Shady Oaks.

Once everything is finalized, a communication will be sent out on the website and via email to inform the Town of the upcoming road repairs, dates, and work location.

Double Oak Hazardous Waste Day in the Planning Stages

It has been a year since Double Oak offered a Hazardous waste day. Now that Waketon Road is complete, the Town is working with Republic Systems to target a weekend to hold the event.

The town will blast the email and post it on the website once the dates are set.

Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department Updates

DOVFD is preparing for this year’s July 4th festivities. The parade and picnic will be held on Tuesday, July 4. The parade will begin at 9:30 at the intersection of Simmons and Cross Timbers Dr. and will course down Cross Timbers Drive ending at John B Wright Park. The picnic will start at 10:00, with our favorite band Triple Lindy providing festive music. As in years past, we will have food and beverages, bounce houses and water slides, a silent auction, and much more. Our members will be out selling raffle tickets soon with $500 gift cards to Lowes, Academy, and our favorite Old Town Market as prizes.

If you would like to provide donations for the Silent Auction or volunteer for the event, please get in touch with Chief Heimerdinger at Chief552@dovfd.org.

Thank you from the DOVFD, and stay safe. And as usual, if interested in joining the FD, please stop by on Monday nights at 7 PM or fill out an application at www.dovfd.org.

Helicopter Activity in Double Oak on June 6th, 2023, from 8 am to 12 pm

5 State Helicopters will be in the City of Double Oak performing an external load operation to lift HVAC materials to and from the top of Crossroads Bible Church, 8101 Justin Road, between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. If you hear helicopter noise on that day, this is what is happening. There should be no impact on 407 other than the almighty “gawker” slowing down when the traffic sees the helicopter.

Reminders:
