Double Oak neighbors,

I hope you and your family are staying safe and warm. This is a generational weather event across Texas. Our state’s power grid is at a very critical time. As I type this communication, the news just reported that ERCOT is requesting power providers to shed more megawatts from the power grid.

I want to provide you with an update this evening for Double Oak.

This past Saturday, the town sent out a communication from CoServ that spoke of their Emergency Response Plan and energy conservation request. That communication included language about the possibility of rotating outages.

The rotating outages began in the early morning hours on Monday. Around 8:30am the town was alerted that a couple of homes were completely without power and that number increased throughout the day.

The town worked with our partners at CoServ throughout the day on Monday to get our residents back online and in the rotation outages.

By Monday evening, every home that was on the town’s complete outage list was back online and have remained online in the rotation outages.

The town had no reports on Tuesday of any homes completely without power.

The town has been checking in daily with our partners at Cross Timbers Water Supply Corporation and they report water supply operations are fine at this time.

The Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department and Double Oak Police Department have been busy responding to calls from residents. Double Oak thanks our First Responders.

Plumbers suggest to know where your water shutoffs are located in the event of a burst pipe.

Republic Services has advised for residents to only set out trash carts Friday morning by 7:00am. Do not set out recycle carts, bulk or bags. Trash collection will be the only service provided this week. Trash carts may not be serviced on Friday. Due to the weather, trash collection might be a couple of days late. Leave trash carts at the street until they are serviced. Do not leave anything on the ground because it will not be collected.

Double Oak thanks our utility partners at CoServ, Atmos, Cross Timbers Water Supply Corporation, Upper Trinity Regional Water District and Republic Services for their cooperation and response under difficult weather conditions.

Double Oak residents should contact the responsible utility or service provider directly to report outages and handle account matters.

Thanks to our Double Oak residents, town employees, DOVFD, DOPD, businesses and Double Oak Women’s Club for your help and understanding this week.

I personally want to thank the members of the Double Oak Town Council Joe Dent, Billie Garrett, Anita Nelson, Scott Whisenhunt, Von Beougher and the elected officials who represent Double Oak on the state and county level for their most valuable assistance during this weather event emergency: Senator Jane Nelson, Representative Tan Parker and Trish Robinson, Denton County Judge Andy Eads and Precinct 4 Commissioner Dianne Edmondson.

Town Hall remains closed and administrative staff are working remotely.

Stay warm, safely.
