The Double Oak Police Department is proudly committed to making our community as safe as possible while traveling our roads.
Our agency has specially trained technicians that hold a national certification affiliated with SafeKids. Our technician participates in multiple community events throughout the year specifically related to the installation, inspection and education regarding the proper installation of child restraint systems. Our technician will take the time to observe the child in the seat as it is currently being used, inspect the safety seat, and go over proper installation techniques with the parent(s). The process takes about 45 minutes and is free of charge.
The Double Oak Police Department offers child safety seat inspections free of charge by appointment. To schedule an appoint with our Department Technician, please contact Officer Shawn Chelf at (972) 355-5995.
This service is offered to ensure your child is properly secured when riding in the family vehicle. Often, parents and caregivers feel that since they have read the installation instructions and the child seems comfortable in the seat, that the child is safe. This is not always the case. It is understandable that most parents and caregivers need to seek assistance for:
- Installing the seat correctly;
- Obtaining information and experience that will lead to self-sufficiency for future use;
- Placing the child in the seat correctly;
- Using the correct child safety seat for the age/size of the child.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website: "Car seats and boosters provide protection for infants and children in a crash, yet car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. That's why it's so important to choose and use the right car seat correctly every time your child is in the car."
