National Police Week 2023

Police Week 2023

National Police Week occurs every May, and in 2023 we will be observing Police Week from May 14–20.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

This is huge for the families of Officer John Mestas and Officer Lonnie Sneed. They will be honored at the National Memorial in Washington DC on May 15, 2023. Mayor Mike Donnelly and Assistant Chief Gaines will be traveling there to support these officers as well as their loved ones.

The Double Oak Police Department will also be honoring Officer Mestas and Officer Sneed, along with other Denton County officers who have lost their lives over the years at the 27th Annual Denton County Fallen Officers Memorial event. The event will be held on May 17, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 at the Denton County Amphitheater and memorial park. We encourage our citizens to attend this event to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives in the line of duty.

Our officers would greatly appreciate it if you just stop and say thank you when you see them.
