Double Oak Annual July 4th Festival – Huge Success, Huge Parade with Huge Crowds

The town would like to share some comments from Chief Whisenhunt regarding the Double Oak Annual 4th of July Festival.

“The DOVFD Annual 4th of July Parade and Picnic was another outstanding success.

The Double Oak, Volunteer Fire Department, appreciated the town’s support and loved seeing everyone at the event.  The parade was extraordinarily long this year, with a great variety of floats and groups to help the town of Double Oak celebrate not only the founding of our nation but also the pride we have in our town and our country.

Thank to the generosity of everyone who attended, we raised somewhere north of $30,000 to help us continue to serve the finest citizens in the State of Texas.

It is not only our pleasure to serve but to enjoy seeing the town of Double Oak come together as a community; that makes Double Oak so great.

Thank you again for your generosity, and we look forward to seeing you in Dec when Santa comes to town (yes, I know, it is a bit hot to think about that right now.)”

Great work by all the volunteers from the DOVFD, DOWC, spouses, and family members who also pitched in to assist.

Our Town Salutes you all for a job well done.

Thank You, Chief Whisenhunt, and Thank You to the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department members.

The Double Oak Women’s Club Celebrated the 4th of July in Style

Message from Bonnie Morrow, Double Oak Women’s Club President:

“If you missed the Double Oak 4th of July parade, you missed a great parade. I believe this was the best turnout the town has ever had.

Our club float theme was” Double Oak Women Gone Wild.” I’m sure several things pop into your mind when you hear that---- right???

We were leopards in the jungle lounging around until we saw kids wanting candy; then, the fun began, throwing candy and shooting water guns. All had a great time. As usual, the fire department did a great job.”

Double Oak is truly lucky to have these ladies do what they do for the town and the citizens.  It was great that the town saw their “Wild Side.”  Congratulations on the success of your float, and a big Thank You for all your club’s hard work.

Celebrate the Fourth Safely – Town Success

We would like to also congratulate our town citizens for complying with our Fireworks ordinances.  I realize we all would like to celebrate with a “boom,” but with our pending drought, stage two water restrictions, and the fact that fireworks can be dangerous, the town behaved with great success.

In speaking with Chief Rivas of the DOPD, the department had one call for fireworks over the entire weekend and the 4th of July.

Kudos to the Town Citizens.

Double Oak 50th Birthday Logo

The Double Oak 50th Birthday logo designs were available for viewing at the 4th of July picnic. Attendees cast their votes for their favorite logo that the 50th Committee will utilize over the next year on flags, T-shirts, etc.

And the Winner is:

50th Birthday Logo Winner

William Lundgren submitted the winning logo – Congratulations!   You will begin seeing this logo on signs, banners, and commemorative items celebrating Double Oak’s 50th Birthday.

50th Birthday Logo Contest Submissions Chart

The 50th Birthday Committee thanks the Almond family, Matt Armstrong, Hava Armstrong, Landry Armstrong, Debra O’Donnell, William Lundgren, Jean Lundgren, and Kelly Johnson, for entering their logo designs in the contest.

All the logos looked great, making it a hard decision for the voters at the 4th of July picnic.

Congratulations to the 50th Committee for this great presentation and the hard work that went into it.

Great display of all the logos, and the town looks forward to the next steps in our/your journey to the 50th Birthday celebration in May 2024.

Thank You to the contributors for their creativity and hard work.  Again, this shows our citizens’ commitment to the Town of Double Oak.

Double Oak Mill and Overlay Project Update, Brittain Road Repairs, and Crack Seal Update

The Mill and Overlay projects were completed on time. Now the town is waiting for the final invoices for payment.

All-Out Concrete confirmed that the repairs to Brittain Rd will occur today (Friday, July 7th, 2023).  Please refrain from using the road while the repairs are being made.

Thank you to all the citizens living on these town roads for your patience as the town makes these improvements.

The Roads and Drainage Committee has identified (16) roads for the annual Crack Seal Project.  These yearly projects are meant to extend the life of our Double Oak roads and streets.  The plan is to seal all cracks in all roads every five years.  That is a tall task for our town, but this committee working with the Town Council, works hard to make it happen.

Public Works has received one bid, and we are waiting for two others. Then they will be presented to the Town Council for discussion, consideration, and action on approving a bid and targeted start dates for these roads to be sealed.

More to follow on this from Public Works and Town Council.
