Double Oak Town Council Meeting Hawaiian Shirt Night

Thanks to all the citizens who attended the Town Council meeting on Monday and participated in the Hawaiian Shirt Night.  We had some fabulous Hawaiian shirts and dresses; one citizen even brought leis for the council, staff, and any citizens who wanted to wear one.

Council Liaison Appointments

Also, on Monday, the Town Council reshuffled the council liaison positions for our boards, committees, and commissions. The list is as follows and will be posted on the town website. Great work by Council Person Pat Wellen for taking on this task.

Liaison is not an advocate nor an opponent but rather a conduit for organizations, staff, boards, commissions, committees, etc. To facilitate communication between Council and entity without prejudice.

School Traffic at Bridlewood Blvd and Waketon

With the widening of Waketon, there needs to be more clarity regarding the traffic flow with drop-off and pick-up times at Downing Middle School.  Now that Waketon (east/west) is three lanes, it has become more dangerous with the volume of traffic and students attempting to cross Waketon at the Bridlewood intersection.

As a reminder, Double Oak has a crossing guard that crosses students at the corner of Kings/Waketon and Cross Timbers. This is the ONLY safe place for students to cross. There is no crosswalk or crossing guard at the intersection of Bridlewood and Waketon.  Parents, please refrain from having your students cut across the street.  With the three lanes of traffic is more dangerous than ever to attempt a crossing there.

The mayor and Chief Rivas of the DOPD will meet with the principal at Downing to address this issue.

Double Oak Town Council Town Treasurer Position

We have had a few citizens inquire about the Town Treasurer position.  The mayor will be meeting with them next week to discuss with each.

We appreciate their inquiry into volunteering with the town.
