Double Oak Approves 2023-2024 Budget at No New Revenue Rate

Double Oak town council on Thursday evening approved the 2023-2024 town budget and met its No New Revenue Rate target for property tax.  This is a big win for the citizens of Double Oak as they will not pay more taxes than in 2022-2023.

The more than three-hour meeting was highlighted by debate between citizens and the town council regarding merit pay for the town's employees, including the Double Oak Police Department officers.  Throughout the budget process, all parties gave and took; ultimately, merit was approved for all town employees.

“There was excellent debate during the meeting between citizens, town administration, and town council,” said Mayor Patrick Johnson, “not everyone got exactly what they wanted from the budget, but the town council did approve an increase in merit pay for the town officers which was more than what was included in the first pass at the budget.”

Double Oak Roads was also a winner in this budget process, and the town council funded new mill and, overlay, and crack seal projects, all included in next year’s budget.

Double Oak Town Council Approves an Interlocal Agreement for Services with SPAN, Inc

Span, Inc. is a nonprofit established in 1974 that enables people in Denton County to live as fully and independently as possible by providing nutrition and transportation to seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, and other members of the public.  They support programs like Meals on Wheels Senior Paws and provide public transportation for Denton County residents who qualify.  Transportation for medical, shopping for necessities, public libraries, and senior programs are just a sampling of what they can do for seniors.

Double Oak will be supporting them with funds from the 2023-2024 budget that will enable Double Oak seniors to take advantage of this service.

Double Oak has become a “pass thru” town with a traffic increase on 407.  With Simmons, Cedarcrest, Tanglewood (north/south), and Waketon and Kings (east/west).  Once we mine data over time, this technology will allow the Chief, Assistant Chief, and our officers to patrol these busy roadways better to keep our town safe.

There will be more to share in the coming months on the data collected from this trailer.  So please stay tuned and slow down; the Double Oak Police Department is monitoring!
