Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department Welcomes Chief Erik Eichinger as the New Fire Chief of the Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department

The Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department is excited to announce Erik Eichinger as its new Fire Chief. After 25 years of dedicated service to our community, Chief Whisenhunt is retiring from this position. This is a succession that we have discussed over the past year to ensure a coordinated transfer of duties and leadership. Scott Whisenhunt will remain with the department to guide Chief Eichinger in his new position.

Chief Eichinger has an extensive background in executive management and has been a leader in our department since his arrival. He has served as our training officer, on the board of directors, and as a captain with the necessary experience on fire ground operations and command to continue the outstanding service the DOVFD has provided the town of Double Oak.

The town of Double Oak would like to congratulate Chief Eichinger on a well-deserved appointment and thank former Chief Whisenhunt for his years of service to the town.

Below is the Department Activity Report for October 2023

Daylight Savings Time Fall Back is Sunday, November 5th at 2:00 a.m.

It's almost time for clocks to "fall back" one hour. This Sunday, Nov. 5, daylight saving time ends.

On the second Sunday of March, at 2 a.m., clocks in most of the United States and many other countries move forward one hour and stay there for nearly eight months in Daylight Saving Time. On the first Sunday of November, at 2 a.m., clocks fall back an hour to standard time.

The current March to November system that the US follows began in 2007, but the concept of "saving daylight" is much older. Daylight Saving Time has its roots in train schedules. Still, it was put into practice in Europe and the United States to save fuel and power during World War I, according to the US Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

November 7th, 2023, Election Information – UPDATE

This past week, a discussion took place with a citizen regarding the language that the state mandates when bond elections take place.  This language can be confusing and misleading for the voters.  The following statements are taken from the LIDS Bond Website, which has links below in this update.

We wanted to share some of these statements from the website with our Double Oak voters.

TAX RATE DECREASE

Even if all seven propositions are approved, the total tax rate will still be 10.6 cents lower than last year’s tax rate.

Over the last seven years, the district has reduced the overall tax rate by 27 cents, dropping the total tax rate from $1.40 in 2017 to its current rate of $1.13.

Even if voters approve all propositions, the total tax rate for Lewisville ISD homeowners will still be 10.6 cents lower than last year’s tax rate. The decreased tax rate is due to state-mandated tax compression.

The November ballot will also have a Constitutional Amendment proposing to raise the Homestead Exemption from $40,000 to $100,000. If Texas Proposition 4 and the LISD Propositions pass, the tax bill for an average homeowner* in LISD will be $1,000 less than last year.

*based on an average LISD home value of $490,000

Citizens 65+

Property taxes for citizens aged 65 or older cannot be affected by school district bond elections as long as a homestead and over 65 exemptions are on file with the local appraisal district.

The dollar amount of school taxes imposed on the residence homestead of a person 65 years+ cannot be increased above the amount paid in the first year after the person turns 65, regardless of changes in tax rate or property value.

There is also a property tax calculator that will estimate their tax savings if Prop 4 and Prop A passes:   LISD Bond 2023 | November 7, 2023

Reminders:

The Denton County Burn Ban Is No Longer in Effect

Due to recent rainfall, Denton County Commissioners lifted the county's burn ban Friday.

Despite the removal of the ban, Friday is not considered a "good burn day" by the county due to excessive wind speed.

The disposal of vegetation by open burning is allowed in unincorporated Denton County and some cities, but only on "good burn days."

The determination of whether each day is a "good burn day" or "bad burn day" is made each morning between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
