Double Oak - Friday Updates (5/26/2023)

Message from Mayor Johnson

As I navigated the town during the recent election, I was asked quite a few times if we would continue the weekly announcements from the town hall.  My answer was always and still is YES.  But we can expand upon these highly sought-after announcements and will continue to improve them moving forward.

We have invited the DOPD, DOVFD, DOWC, Town Council, and Town Administration to contribute to these weekly announcements. All these entities are what make Double Oak the Greatest Place to Live.

There may be weeks that we don’t have an update from one or another, but we will do our best to include all in these weekly announcements.

Stay tuned as we will look to improve every week.

Thanks to all the contributors in advance for their future announcements.

Sincerely,

Patrick Johnson
Mayor of Double Oak

“What Memorial Day Means to Americans”

The following was taken from an article written by U.S. Mission Italy on May 30th, 2022

“Memorial Day honors America’s military men and women who lost their lives in service to their country.

The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May, a time of year when the weather is turning warmer, and schools and universities are adjourning for summer break. To Americans, Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer. Many people attend parades, go to the beach or have cook-outs with friends and family.

But at its heart, Memorial Day is a day when Americans reflect on the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in military service”.

Please have a safe and memorable Holiday Weekend with your friends and family.

You are cordially invited to attend a Double Oak Town Hall reception honoring Dick & Georgette Cook on June 17, 2023, from 3-5 pm at the Double Oak Town Hall.

Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department Updates

As with most things in life, change is unavoidable, and I wish to communicate some changes in the DOVFD leadership.  Unfortunately for us, Captain David Lance, due to personal reasons, will be leaving Double Oak for Minnesota.  Captain Lance will be taking his 32 years of firefighting experience, his heart for mentoring young adults into passionate firefighters, and his dedication to the FD and the town of Double Oak.  This loss saddens us, but we wish Captain Lance luck and pray with him.

Stepping up to fill his large shoes is Lt. Erik Eichinger, who has been promoted to Captain. With three years of experience, Captain Eichinger has a proven track record and has shown the leadership expected in an outstanding organization such as our own FD.  Additionally, Firefighter Craig Apfel has been promoted to Lieutenant with his two years of experience.  Erik and Craig have shown an aptitude for leadership, a constant drive to improve the operations and personnel at the DOVFD, along a love for this town.  Please help me congratulate Erik and Craig on their well-deserved promotions.

Fourth of July Celebration

Let’s not forget that the 4th of July celebration is approaching.  More details to follow, but it will be on the day of the 4th this year, and we are starting to sell our raffle tickets for a $500 gift card to the Meat Market or Lowes (other accommodations can potentially be made if those two choices don’t excite you).  Each ticket is $10; the more you buy, the better your chances.  Also, we are taking silent auction donations, if you have items, services, etc., you would like to donate, please contact Assistant Chief Kathy Heimerdinger at chief552@dovfd.org.

Thank you from the DOVFD, and stay safe. And as usual, if interested in joining the FD, please stop by on Monday nights at 7 PM or fill out an application at www.dovfd.org.

Upper Trinity Regional Water District – Currently in Drought Stage 1

Please do your part to conserve!

Drought is a part of life in North Texas. Many residents may not realize we’re in a drought until they see low lake levels or when watering restrictions are implemented. In general, a “drought” is a period of below-average rainfall that, depending on severity and duration, can substantially reduce lake levels, which are the primary source of drinking water for North Texas. For example, Upper Trinity can implement Stage 1 of its Drought Contingency Plan once lake levels fall below 75% full. Since drought conditions can develop quickly, preparing and practicing water-saving habits is essential. Since outdoor watering accounts for an estimated 50 – 70% of water usage during the warmer months, reducing outdoor watering is the most effective way to save water. Find great tips on our Water Less Y’all page.
