Saturday’s Ceremony for Georgette and Dick Cook

Dick & Georgettes’ daughter Ildi Cook Hattorf, granddaughter Ashlynne Elizabeth Alber and son Blaine William Alber joined us to honor their parent and grandparents last Saturday at the Town Hall.  It was a grand ceremony, and the town celebrated Georgette and Dick with stones laid in our town memorial and unveiled Dick Cook’s name above the door to the council chambers.

It was a wonderful and, at times, emotional ceremony with many friends and family members paying tribute to Georgette and Dick.

The email we received back from Ildi is

“I can't thank you ALL enough for the time, and memories shared Saturday.  It was so meaningful, and both our my children learned so much more about their grandparents.  So here was the silly little thoughts I wrote down and accidentally tossed out with my teary tissues Saturday”.

Double Oak, my childhood hometown.  A dedicated community to serve all.
Outstanding parades and fun down-home picnics.
Unassuming small town.
Best place to call home. Life was simpler here in Double Oak.
Love of family and neighbors, where everyone knows your name!  Even the  police, LOL
Everyone should want to be a part of such a community and town!  The BEST!

Open-hearted to all who come by.
Amazing community
Kindhearted Bubble of a Town!

“Hope this helps!  Ildi”.

Ildi Cook Hattorf

What a great email from Ildi and her family.

On behalf of the Citizens and Town of Double Oak, we will always be indebted to the Cook family.  The Double Oak, Women’s Club, provided refreshments and cool drinks and did a tremendous job as they always do supporting Double Oak Activities.

Thank you, Double Oak Women’s Club.

Double Oak Annual July 4th Festival

July 4th is fast approaching, and the DOVFD is preparing for this year’s festivities. The parade and picnic will be held on Tuesday, July 4. The parade will begin at 9:30 at the intersection of Simmons and Cross Timbers Dr. and will course down Cross Timbers Drive ending at John B Wright Park. The picnic will start at 10:00, with our favorite band Triple Lindy providing festive music. As in years past, we will have food and beverages, bounce houses and water slides, a silent auction, and much more. Our members are out selling raffle tickets with $500 gift cards to Lowes, Academy, and our favorite Old Town Market as prizes.

If you would like to provide donations for the Silent Auction or volunteer for the event, please contact Chief Heimerdinger at Chief552@dovfd.org.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Double Oak Mill and Overlay Project Update

The following is the current update on the ongoing FY 2022-2023 Mill & Overlay project.

Peach Tree Construction is currently on schedule for completion. The work commenced on June 19th and will conclude on June 29th, weather permitting.

  • Meadow Knoll June 19th-22nd (Completed)
  • Park Lane June 21st-24th (3 Quarters Completed)
  • Shady Oak Ln June 23rd -27th (Milling Has Begun)
  • Timberview Dr June 26th -29th (Slated to Begin Monday)

As was discussed, if there is any delay (weather or breakdowns) where we can’t guarantee a street completion before the 4th of July, they will pause and resume after.

Traffic disruptions will occur on each of these streets during the work, so please be patient and drive cautiously.

Parade Route Tree Trimming & Tanglewood Tree Removal

Next week 1-2-Tree will trim the trees on Cross Timbers before the Double Oak 4th of July parade.

The HOA of Vickery will have tree crews removing the dead trees on Tanglewood in the middle of next week.  The removal costs and upkeep of this strip of land east of Tanglewood is the responsibility of the Vickery HOA.

Please be patient and drive with caution with the tree trimming crews, as they will sometimes have to block the street to remove the limbs.

Thank you in advance for your patients.
