Town Council Approves Bid for Asphalt Street Paving 2022-2023 Mill and Overlay Project

The 2022-2023 Asphalt Streets Mill and Overlay Project consists of the mill & overlay of four existing asphalt roadways in town. The scope of work includes pavement repair, 2-inch mill and 2-inch asphalt overlay for Shady Oaks, Park Lane, Timberview Drive and part of the eastern section of Meadow Knoll off of Waketon Road.

The engineers opinion of estimated probable cost was $761,375.56. The bids came in and ranged between $593,087.75 to $648,870.12. The town engineer recommended and town council approved to award the bid to the low bidder which is Peachtree Construction.

The town engineer will meet with the asphalt paving contractor in what’s called a PreCon meeting. The town will send out communications after a paving schedule is developed.

The town council made a wise decision back in December 2022 to pause going out for bids and wait till late February/early March to go out for bids. Fortunately, this pause allowed oil, fuel and other cost factors to come down in the market, which in the opinion of the town engineer, enabled the town to realize a savings of at least One-Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000) of residents tax dollars.
